Moving away from bulky board boxes or expansive card trays, this edition is designed for on-the-go play in airports, campouts, restaurants, and quick tabletop breaks. The primary gameplay objective centers on pure elimination survival: players take turns playing action cards to manipulate the deck and end their turns by drawing from the central draw pile, doing everything in their power to avoid drawing a lethal Exploding Kitten card.

The primary mechanical hurdle stems from navigating escalating risk with an ever-thinning draw deck. Each turn, the probability of drawing an Exploding Kitten rises. Players stay alive by playing strategic Action cards—such as "See the Future" to scout incoming cards, "Skip" to bypass dangerous draws, "Attack" to force opponents into double turns, and "Shuffle" to reset the odds. If a player draws an Exploding Kitten, they must immediately discard a rare Defuse card (using belly rubs, laser pointers, or catnip sandwiches) to secretly place the lethal cat back anywhere into the deck; if they have no Defuse card, they explode and are eliminated from the match. Designed for 2 to 4 players aged 7 and up, a complete game plays out in a fast, tense 10 to 15 minutes. To win, you must carefully manage your hand, track remaining Defuse cards, and force your rivals into the blast zone.
