Catan: Explorers & Pirates 5–6 Player Extension (published by Catan Studio) broadens the scope of the adventurous Explorers & Pirates expansion, allowing larger gaming groups to embark on maritime expeditions, deliver valuable spice shipments, and root out corsairs together. Moving away from tight 3-to-4 player sea routes, this extension scales up the map footprint and provides two complete sets of additional player pieces (green and brown). The primary gameplay objective centers on multi-island development and mission completion: players construct harbor settlements, navigate transport ships across fog-shrouded hexes, transport settlers, trade with indigenous spice villages, and fish the deep sea to accumulate victory points across several modular scenarios.

The primary mechanical hurdle stems from navigating increased maritime traffic, contested fishing grounds, and pirate-infested sea lanes while adapting to the "Special Building Phase" (or updated Paired Players turn rules) designed to minimize downtime between turns. With six fleets competing for landing spots on newly discovered islands, captains must carefully allocate resources between upgrading ships, training crew members, and securing harbor infrastructure. Designed for 5 to 6 players aged 12 and up, an expanded game session typically plays out over 90 to 120 minutes. To claim dominion over the archipelago, players must master maritime logistics, ferry resources efficiently, and conquer pirate fortresses before rival navigators control the trade routes.
